The Job Offer Decision Checklist (That Actually Helps)

Insights

You’ve got a job offer!

The excitement hits… then the panic sets in. Suddenly, you’re questioning everything from the role itself to your entire career path. Sound familiar?

Making a decision about a job offer isn’t always straightforward. It’s rarely just about money or job titles- it’s about your future, your happiness, and the little voice in your head wondering, “What if this is a mistake?”

Totally normal. Job offers can be stressful. Really stressful.

So… take a breath. Make a tea. Run through this checklist:

Your Simple Job Offer Checklist

This is the same one we share with those stuck in decision limbo. It’s not perfect, but it works. Here goes:

1. Trust your gut. Always.

You’ve been building those instincts for years. Now’s the time to use them.

2. Add 20% more stress than you expect.

New job = new people, new systems, new everything. It’ll feel messy at first. That’s okay.

3. Take off 20% of the shine.

Even dream jobs have off days. Reality will never match the job spec word-for-word.

4. Consider: Will you actually enjoy the day-to-day?

Not just the perks or job title. The actual work.

5. If your new boss left before you started… would you still want the job?

Because if the answer’s “no”, you might be following a person, not a path.

6. Bonuses are a bonus.

Not how you hit your actual salary expectations. Be clear-eyed.

7. You’re allowed to say no.

It’s your career. Not a favour you’ve been handed. Own your power.

8. Don’t rush.

Any company that won’t give you space to think, might not give you space to grow.

9. Write it down.

Pros and cons lists are old school, but they still work.

10. Are you leaving to join… or just to escape?

Big difference. One leads to progress. The other just leads to another job search.

11. Do you really know how the business is performing?

If not, ask. If they avoid answering, there’s your red flag.

Final Tip? Re-read that checklist.

Then breathe. Again.

Because here’s the truth: You got the offer.

That means someone sees your value. That means you’ve got options. And that’s a position of strength, no matter what decision you make.

Whether you take the role or walk away with your head held high, back yourself. You’ve earned the right to be picky.

Remember: What’s meant to be, will be. And if it’s not this one? We’ll help you find the right one.

At We Do Group, we help finance professionals make smart moves – not rushed ones.

Let’s chat.
